Der vorliegende Doppelband des Catalogue of the Babylonian Tablets” bietet Informationen zu allen Tontafeln aus Babylonien, die zwischen 1821 und 1881 durch Ausgrabungen, Ankauf und Schenkung ihren Weg in das Britisch Museum gefunden haben. Das Katalogisieren dieser Sammlungen begann 1994/5, als Theophilus Pinches einen Zettelkasten-Katalog des erstenTeils der zweiten Spartali-Collection erstellte. Die Arbeit wurde fortgesetzt von Abe Sachs, Donald Wiseman, Irving Finkel und Christopher Walker, vervollständigt durch Beiträge zahlreicher anderer Wissenschaftler. Zig Tausende Tontafeln, die nun im British Museum aufbewahrt werden sind katalogisiert mit aktuellen Informationen über ihre Herkunft, ihren Inhalt und die Geschichte ihrer Publikation: sowohl akkadische als sumerische Texte, Administrative Texte, Rechtstexte, Briefe, Königsinschriften, Epen, Beschwörungen, Omina und andere literarische Texte.
